Program Outcomes

Program outcomes are overarching skills that are emphasized and reinforced throughout several courses in a specific program; they are measurable statements that define what students should know or be able to do by the end of a certificate or degree at Clark College. After successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Apply health information policies, regulations, accreditation standards, and legal requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Assign and validate diagnostic and procedural codes using standard classification systems (e.g., CPT, HCPCS, ICD, etc) and coding guidelines to support reimbursement and data quality.
  • Apply and monitor revenue cycle processes, including charge capture, billing, and reimbursement methodologies, to ensure accurate financial outcomes.
  • Demonstrate and model foundational leadership, teamwork, communication, and professional behavior in accordance with legal, ethical, and industry standards.
  • Identify and explain foundational biomedical sciences (e.g., anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, medical terminology) and allied health concepts essential for HIM practice.
